The 740s will stick out with an aftermarket kit. The 780s and 760s used the ISO DIN brackets on the side. You may be able to take the brackets off the side of your radio and put it on the new one. You may need to get an ISO DIN radio to do this. Look around at crutchfield and give them a call for more info.

I don't know what the dash conversion kit is, but I have installed an aftermarket stereo in my 780.

It doesn't stick out an inch, infact, mine sits flush in the UPPER DIN slot. I had to make a custom wood face plate (out of cherry no less) to cover up exposed trim there.

email me at swar2304 (at) kettering.edu if you have any more problems, as I have gone through this whole thing.
