Virgo Wheels - Paint or Powder Coat? 200

The Virgos on the 242 are looking pretty ratty even after lots of scrubbing. What's the best solution for long term, paint or powder coating? What's the best way to clean the nooks and crannies before refinishing? Can they be hot tanked or bead blasted?

TIA

I have had good results wet sanding the original powder coat with 320 grit, followed by a fast scuff with 600. I then use a urethane acrylic topcoat like Sikkens Autocyl. The colour I use mostly is the Mercedes silver they used on topcoat and their own alloy wheels. A bit brighter than the Volvo grey, but not too flashy. Stands up well for 5 or 6 years, but hot brake dust particles will bite into the finish.

For long term ... bead blasted and powder coated.

For short term (like a year or so before redoing), forget about major scrubbing ... a good dousing of paint will cover a lot of stains and defects.

-- Kane ... who's Corona rims are all done in the short tem method.

They can be bead blasted clean. The factory finish is a "warm" silver paint. If you don't want to pay someone to do it, the proper color can be obtained from Eastwood company, in spray cans. A clear lacquer over the silver should give the proper luster.
