Are all Garrett turbos the same on Volvos? (pics) 200

I was trying to save some down time by rebuilding a Garrett off a '88 740 and dropping it in my '82 245 when I had the time. I ordered a center cartridge for the '82 assuming it would be the same as the '88. Well.. it's not, the mating surface on the intake side is different. I don't know if the supplier made a mistake or if it was me. I haven't disassembled the '82 yet as it's in my daily driver

Has anyone had their turbo apart and can remember what the mating surface from the cartridge to the intake housing looked like. My old one has an O-ring on a thick flange and the one I bought has a stepped flange with no O-ring. the flange on the new cart is also slightly too small for the housing. I've tried to attach pictures of the difference.

Thanks again,
Bob W.

This may be a dumb question but shouldn't you have ordered a cartridge for the 88 740 turbo? If there was a difference in housings I would think they would just swap it out for you...

I have a 85 240Ti and just received the cartridge that I got off ebay.It has the flange not an O ring,so I think thay sent you the wrong one,but then again I don't know when thay started using a O ring. By the way did you get yours from Bamabev? mine is a rebuilt $125,great price I hope it lasts for a while. Well good luck let us know what you find out. Charlie
