Brake Warning Light was 'on' for a moment.... 900

My car is a 1993 940 N/A with 172k miles. It's been cold in Michigan for the last couple of weeks. Two nights ago it was close to zero (Fahrenheit) and when I banked an entrance ramp onto the freeway the brake warning light came on without my applying the brake pedal. In fact I was accelerating. It went out in less than twenty seconds. I pumped the brake pedal to see if the master had failed and it felt normal. The fluid has been changed every two years. ooking for suggestions. The problem has not shown up again, but it's also warmed up into the teens.

1) Is this an electrical problem?

2) Does the master contain the sensor that indicates failure in the brake system? Can the sensor be checked?

Mark

The brake failure warning lamp is simply a low fluid indication. There is a switch in the master cylinder reservior that is triggered by a float. When the fluid is low, it grounds the warning lamp circuit.

    Low fluid?

      I hope I didn't miss the obvious.... 900

..I will check it first thing this morning. I give all the fluids a cursory check when I refuel but it never occurs to me to check the brake reservoir other than a visual glance. This time I will check the level. I hope the level is safe and I have not drawn air into the lines or the ABS unit.

Low brake fluid may be an indication of worn brake pads. It would be wise to check. Good luck

It was the fluid. Right on the min line. The banking on the curve should have tipped me off. Thanks for the pad wear suggestion. I just checked them. I should pinch myself for not thinking this through properly.
