We used to own a 1984 244 DL Police Car. Bought it new in '84 from Volvo of Lisle, IL. Scotia Blue exterior, dark blue interior. Intercooled turbo B21FT with K-jetronic fuel injection. AW71 auto transmission with auxillary cooler. Turbo suspension. The DL had the large aluminum bumpers like the 1975-1982 Volvos. It had vinyl seats in the front and back, no rear armrest, heavy duty padding in the buckets. Rubber floor covering instead of carpets. Vinyl blood mat that folded down over the rear seat. Each center door pillar had a flexible reading lamp. The dome lamp was oversized and was controled with a rocker switch mounted on the left side of the steering column cover. Billy club holders were screwed to the floor on the outside of each front seat. We had the dealer install air conditioning and stainless steel wheel trim rings onto the steel wheels. I installed a set of euro headlamps that we picked up while vacationing in Sweden. This was a sweet car to drive. We owned it until 1992 when evidence of rust was starting to show up at various body seams(The car had been Ziebarted when new and was garaged and babied its whole life). Thank you road salt!!! Saw the car advertised for $2800(in an auto trader magazine with photo) at a dealer on the southside of Chicago around 1997 and was tempted to go and check it out, but I never did. It would have been too hard to see it again knowing it had'nt been garaged in 5 years and it lived on the streets of Chicago. It was better to remember the way it looked the day we sold it. I hope this helps answer some of your questions about Police DL's.

    John

Not much help, I know, but here is at least a couple of pictures of what our 240 police cars looked like. Scroll down. http://members.fortunecity.com/copcarpics/oslo.html

I'm scraping the recesses of my cortex here...

Like the other poster mentioned, they were really base (DL) equipped cars. Probably got the chassis bracing or bigger sway bars of the turbo, an oil cooler, maybe even a tranny oil cooler. That's about it.

I do not think it had anything extra but rather, less. No power windows, no fancy interior. It was a DL grade car while turbos were loaded, as I understand it..

I guess you could order cars like this though, my 82 242 has a Turbo, manual windows, cloth seats, no pass side mirror, just says TURBO on the trunk. Has a sunroof though.
