Fuel pump high amp 200 1992

just checked my fuel pumps amp draw. My prepump was drawing ~3 amps and my main pump was drawing 10 when i first started the car, then leveled at 8.5-9 amps. this is in my 91 245SE. Does this mean i have to get a new pump soon? would a bad FPR do this to me?

Fuel pump high amp 200 1992

Any place where you have a corroded or loose contact (FPR contacts, fuses, wire connections etc.) you will have a voltage drop which will cause a increase of current flow thru the circuit resulting in higher operating temperature. You can check the voltage at the FPR output to the pumps (yellow/red wires) with the pumps running and compare it to battery voltage. This will show you the amount of voltage drop thru the supply circuit. In my experience I've seen a 1.5 to 2 volt voltage drop to the pumps without any problems. Do you have a problem? Blown fuses? Bad performance?

I know that you've probably considered this. Fuel filter?
