how to change the coolant 245 200

how do you change the coolant? Does it have a valve on the bottom where you can drain the fluid. I cant find one, if you have to remove the hoses would it not make a terrible mess on your driveway?

I know the answer to this one. Take the car to a shop, wait 30 minutes, get car back and leave shop. Doing this at home is a pain, and taking it somewhere is cheap. Save yourself the hassle and the hazardous waste.

Passenger side, Approx. under #3 spark plug. Brass colored. 17mm wrench (I think)It has a nipple that you can put a hose on. A 5/8 heater hose fits pretty good.

Draining by pulling the radiator hoses off is risky with these plastic tanked radiators.

Refill slowly to try to prevent air pockets.

When starting car after filling, watch Temp gauge. as it starts to climb, you may want to grab the upper hose with both hands and squeeze it several times quickly to Burp the air out.

how to change the coolant 245 200

My '91 has the drain on the block toward the rear, passenger side.

I used to do multiple flushes, but since the coolant comes out clean, I just do it once anymore. The trace of old coolant is not worth the extra hazardous waste generation. I too use Prestone 5/150 and I mix it with distilled water. So far, no problems.

Remember, the reason that you change your coolant is because the rust inhibitors are exhausted after a couple of years (5 years for 5/150)

Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the radiator.
Flush the cooling system as follows (will take 10 minutes and a couple of gallons of water but will save you $50 in mechanic's fees): resecure the radiator hose. Fill the radiator with water. Turn on the engine and run the car for a couple of minutes until the car is warm. Turn off the engine, remove the lower radiator hose. Repeat this process until only water comes out of the radiator (usually 2-3 cycles are needed).
I've helped friends flush their radiators and it took hours because they never cleaned their radiators and we had to get all the rust (brown color) out. If you have any concerns about the quality of your coolant, add Prestone Superflush.
I strongly recommend Dex-Cool or Prestone 5/150 (orange antifreeze/coolant). It's only a couple of dollars more than the green stuff. It cools the engine better (as evidenced by the temperature gauge being lower on my 240s after I use a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water) and lasts for 5 years.

there is a drain valve in the engine block 200

at least on the b230f i have in my 740. it's located around the exhaust manifold area. loosen it to get the stuff out of the block. run a vinyl tube to it to lessen the mess.
