Rear Washer Pump 900 1995

I can't get the FAQ's for the tailgate washer to come up - is it just me?

The rear washer on our 95 940T has not sprayed water for several years. The wiper arm does work, and it makes some noise when you try to spray, but nothing comes out.

I was told a couple of years ago by the dealer that it needs a new rear pump. Can I buy an aftermarket pump and install it myself? How hard is it? Are there directions out there?

Could it not be the pump but something else? What should I check.

Thanks.

I've sent a replacement file to Jarrod for the FAQ. Your problem is likely a clogged nozzle or clogged anti-drainback valve, located in the passenger light compartment. The new FAQ file contains complete instructions. He should have it up shortly. You might test the pump, though, by unplugging the hose in the front and seeing if it works.

While looking around at the connections off of the resevoir, I noticed there is a hose which comes straight up off of the plastic tank. This hose is ripped at the bottom, so it is not really attached to the tank at all. What does this do? It doesn't come off a pump so I don't think the water comes out of there under pressure. Is it just in case of overfilling the resevoir?

I think I have what you are describing. I am under the assumtion it is to relieve pressure or something like that. In fact, mine was ripped/torn at the connection so I purchased a replacement from Autozone for about $.50.

The headlamp washers on my car did not work since I bought it about 3 years ago. I finally decided to get in there and find the problem which turned out to be the $3.00 anti-drainback valve. It fails in the closed position. As suggested, check your pump also. One way would by removing the anti-drainback valve and seeing if washer fluid passes thru the hose. Oh yea, another thing I did was check the actual hoses for clogs. I used the very scientific method of disconnecting the hose and blowing into it. If I could pass air the hose worked.

Indeed. Just to clarify, the pump for the rear washer is next to the one for the front on the washer reservoir in the engine bay. The one for the rear is the one on the left hand side if facing the car. When you've got it up and running, install a small fuel filter (from any autoshop) in the washer line. Works wonders.
