Doors, later 240's on a 140 140-160

Sounds good. I have a 72 142 which is the first year for the non protruding door handles. My right door is very rough so can I use a 240 door shell and use my 142 top rail etc.? How about the inside panel? There is an 85 242 in a local junk yard that may have good doors.

Thanks for the tip-

Mark Richardson

Doors, later 240's on a 140 140-160

Hi

On my 74 144 project car. I am fitting post 80 240/260 doors. I have fitted the left hand rear door so far and you need the 240 style hinges and on the 240 style doors you have to modify the doors to fit the lock assembly from the 144 doors (the part in the door) the volvo workshop manual has a diagram of how to do this if you require this Email me at gpm262@hotmail.com and I will scan the page and Email it to you other than that the doors fit straight on

You'll need to fiddle with the striker plates.

Probably the easiest conversion would be from a 240 with the
old style striker plates to a 140. Some of the later 240s had
the 140 style striker plate but it isn't identical to a 140
striker plate, but you can mount the 240 striker plate where
the 140 plate was and things should work perfectly.

Otherwise, the 240s have a different latching mechanism that
involves a bar instead of a plate and you'd have to put that
bar thingy onto the door hole where the 140 style striker plate
was originally or you'd have to adapt the latching mechanism
from the 140 onto the 240.

None of this should be hard to do, though. Go to a well
stocked you-pick-it salvage yard and have a look.

Otherwise the doors are identical from 1966 -> 1993, at least
with regards to the dimensions and mount points of the doors.
