Right now I'm being really indecisive about painting my 242GT.
It's in primer and I can't decide whether to paint it white or
stock silver with GT stripes.
What do you guys think? I know its a stupid question but I can't
convince myself either way.
Opinions welcome.

Most if not all of the Canadian GT's were black. Very sweet looking. However, as a poster below pointed out, white is best at hiding flaws. Black, in contrast, is the worst.

If you go for a silver, take a look at some of the modern paint jobs. Some of the later models (volvo's acuras etc.) have real nice shades of silver or platinum.

put a little bang into it. paint it siver with a white stipe diagonally placed over the right side head light, crossing over the hood, and stopping at the passenger side windshield base, highlighted with a thin (I am talking 1/4" or smaller) turbo red line parrell with the white line. whatever you choose to do I am sure it will look killer...post some pics so we can check it out too.

VOLVO LOVER WITH AN 80 AND AN 82

Hey finally something I know a little something about. (stress the word little) White is very forgiving of anything not quite perfect, bodywork, painter's talent etc. also it looks real nice and is easy to keep looking clean. silver is about the fastest color to fade or oxidise, and on a personal note silver has never been one of my favorites. so there you have it you asked for opinions and you know what they are like. either way post a pic when it's done so we can see it

do them both! two tone at the trim line~! just a suggestion but i've seen some great 2 tone volvo paint jobs! www.project242.com check out the 240 wagon and the 122 race car!

White will be easier to maintain and will hide most any flaw in the body or paint. I like silver and painted my car that color, the original color (paint code 130 I believe). White will be easier to live with overall, however.....
Good luck..and don't forget to use some Duplicolor bumper and trim paint on the black or gray trim. Detailing the trim will make the paint really look fresh.....
