Knob thingy on intake.... 200

Ok i'm an idgit, what the adjustable "knob" located under the intake on a b230f engine i'm new to Volvo's be gentle

    That is base idle adjustment. At idle the valve body throttle plate is fully closed and a small amount of air bypasses around it internally in the throttle body. That knob controls the amount of air and hence the the base idle speed. Actual idle speed is controlled by the idle air motor which in turn is controlled by the ECU. It bypasses air externally with hoses. Idle should be 750rpm and 900 with AC on.
    Base idle is adjusted with the idle air motor disabled and is set to 700rpm.

    It's the idle speed adjustment on cars 1988 and earlier. Starting in 1989 the idle speed is entirely computer controlled and non-adjustable, so that knob isn't there.
