volvo b36 in 242

Hi!

My original plan was to put a b6304f in my 242.
But now, I've found a volvo b36 with very low milage. (10.000km).
The price is also low, and it includes a improved M47 trans.

The engine is adapted to fit the 200 series, so it's just to insert into the car.

The engine only has 150hp, but 270 nm (compression changed).

I think I will buy this engine, and over time, I will modernize it with injection, porting, etc. maybe turbo?

What do you think about this idea?

Sincerly,

Is the B36 the motor on which the B18 was based? If it
is it is not likely to be a great motor for any car volvo
made since it would weigh a ton.

If it can use the same flywheel as a B18 then you get
a great choice of transmissions though none of them could
take big horsepower.

You might have an easier time dealing with a B30 in a
164. There is a well known upgrade path to this motor and
the suspension can be upgraded to make the car a nice
little car. A bored B30 (B33?) with a wild cam and fuel
injection and an M410 would make a tidy 250hp and still be
easy to drive.

Of course, a B36 would be a great conversation piece.

Greetings, Olav --

I enjoyed a brief look at your Web site.

A question for you based on the picture below, which is from your site.

Did Volvo produce turbocharged B230 engines in '86 240s? The words on your image appear to suggest this...

"What do you think about this idea?"

If you put a big engine in your car, will this car end up like that pretty red 244?

Biggest Volvo engine I know about is the 3 liter B30 and I guess you
probably wouldn't want it in anything but a 164 or a boat....

I went to your site and saw pix of your engine. I don't recognize the
intake system. Is it a carburetor? What kind?

Very spiffy car!

Thanks,
