Lost the dash lights 200 1982

Hi all, was riding in my son's newly converted to M-46 82 244 DL and tried to turn the heat control lever up, there was a pretty good resistance then an audible pop sound, then the dash lights quit. I can't figure out why. There are no wires close to the heat control lever, no open wires near it, but still no dash lights. Anybody have this before? Where should I start. I have voltage to ground on both sides of the fuse but no voltage at the dash light connector.
Thanks as always.

Lost the dash lights 200 1984

On my '84 I lost the dash lights just after replacing the bulb that illuminates the switches on the console. It took me a while, but it turned out to be the dimmer control to the left of the dash, just above the headlamp on/off switch. I bypassed the dimmer altogether, and now I have dash lights back on again.I never dim my dash lights anyway, so it was no loss to not be able to adjust the brightness. One day I will put in a replacement dimmer, just because I read on this brickboard that the dimmer provides resistance to the wires, so maybe I will burn out my dash light sooner than normal. But so far, so good!)

Chuck, as long as you've got the meter out, check continuity on the dimmer. Maybe it just picked that moment to blow?
