Dash removal help 200

Well I'm in the middle of the dreaded blower motor replacement.
I have the dash completely freed up, except for the piece of metal that goes under the steering column. Does that piece detach from the upper dash? or do I have to remove the wheel to get the dash completely out? If anyone has any tips on how that piece is removed I'd appreciate it. I was able to find 3 screws that seemed to go up into the dash pad, but they didn't seem to help when removed. Are there more screws?
Brian

Chris has been there recently - he knows where those screws are. Heck you'll have it looking like this in no time ;-)

It has been a while, but I took some more helpful pics when I changed the blower motor on my 84 (313K).

Here's the link to those pics.

Priceless? I fear what was meant as encouragement may have sent some Brickboarders to warm up their Mastercards.

Yup, that's just about where I was headed with that. Doing that outside in this weather because I was forced to would be barely more pleasurable than cleaning the gutters. A bit of sunshine goes a long way too.

I can barely make out that painting on the wall, but I imagine it to be one of a garage with a roof full of snow.

Yes, it detaches from the upper dash. It actually supports the lower part of the column, as you can see. There are a couple of "hidden" screws and bolts only because they are covered by the vinyl of the dashboard. It shouldn't be that hard to find.

Anyone want to buy a 242GT with the dash in pieces?

I hate this car.

I am pretty sure the crossmember that goes under the steering column is bolted to the steering column with self shearing bolts. ie the bolt head shears off when the bolts are put on. I don't know why they are there I assume either for some safety reason, or theft protection. I think they need to be drilled out. But I am don't think you have to take that crossmember off to to the Blower.

Ya I just checked my Bentley. Only undo the crossmember bolts on the center console side. Leave the rest alone. In fact, according to the manual you can do blower motor without taking the dashboard off. You can take the crossmember off under the glovebox to make it easier on that side.
