In a Volvo 1992 model 940 the shift locks and cannot move out of Park even when the button on the shift stick is depressed and the foot is on the brake. I can release it only by pushing the hidden release under the brushes. What is this? PS: does anyone have experience with Bay Ridge Volvo? Thanks

Shift lock microswitch is gone: common problem. There is more information in the FAQ.
