Questions About Wiring in Gauges 200

Mucho Thanks to Don Foster, Bob Haire and Jim Stoney for the info on wiring in small gauges from the archives. I was able to find a volt meter and oil pressure gauge in an 83 242 turbo in a local boneyard awhile back. The oil pressure sending unit was gone, so I'm "in the hunt" for one .

I did successfully wire in the voltmeter and it works great.

My question is this: When it comes time to wire in the oil pressure gauge, can I "relay" the power and light from the back of the voltmeter and use it as a power source for light and "juice"?. Obviously, the sending unit will be wired in per your instructions.

Also, I recently installed a large tach in place of the clock and there is a harness which will provide power and light to a small clock. Is it possible to use this same harness from the tach to power and light the voltmeter and then relay to the oil pressure gauge?

I appreciate your experience and willingness to provide step-by-step instructions for those of us with less experience. I'm going to tackle my first timing belt, water pump and electric fan conversion the week of Thanksgiving. After reviewing archives and numerous posts, I'm confident that I can now handle it. Please check the posts in between turkey and pumpkin pie just in case I get into a jam.....

just be careful grounding the gauges through the tach...i did that and the ground through the instrument cluster went kaput...many hours of finding what was wrong with a voltmeter and other stuff...if you can, ground the whole shebang to the frame. Not that this is a guaranteed failure by any means, but it sucks, believe me. Power from the tach and lighting shouldn't be a problem though...good luck

you can use the mini-harness for the clock to supply dash light power to any other gauge.

You may not want to use the clock power feed to drive the voltmeter. The clock gets constant power (duh), while (in factory installs) the voltmeter is switched with the key.
