Faster idle with colder weather 200 1982

My warmed-up idle was normal during the summer, and is high now (I'd guess around 1200 or more -- I can gently engage first gear with no additional throttle) that the weather has turned. Just wondering if this is a classic sign of anything simple and cheap to fix.

If I push up on the horizontal band that clicks the ?idle switch, it goes to normal. Does that mean anything?

It does hesitate a bit for the first few minutes with the colder weather, which it didn't do in the warm weather.

Thanks, John.

Faster idle with colder weather 200 1982

    Hello,

This sounds like an easy fix to me. The air bypass valve seems to be malfunctioning here. It is between the number 2 and 3 intake runners with hoses on either and of it and a couple of wires hooking in. Do the bovious visual, making sure wires are connected and the tubes are secure. If you don't get a change, pop the tubes off, unplug it, there are 2 hex screws that hold it on. Take it off, liberally spray some carb cleaner down it and the tubes, reassemble using small tridon clamps for the hoses(if they aren't already installed there) and that should fix it. The aux air valve allows for more airflow in cold weather, therefore higher idle until the engine warms and the valve gradually closes. Good luck....

    and happy bricking

    Richard
