Hall sender 200 1982

What are the characteristics of a failing Hall sender? How can I test it? My 82 B21F, Chrysler ignition, falters at idle and at speed and occasionally stalls at idle. Two local independent Volvo shops have thrown up their hands and suggested possible bad Hall sender or ICU. They don't think there is a wiring harness problem. Bentley doesn't help me on this. I've checked the archives with limited success. Any help appreciated.

Why do they suspect its not the wiring harness, this could be a very likely cause. a volvo shop should know that between 81-87 the wiring harnesses can be a suspect for MOST intermitant problems.

Have you checked the obvious stuff? 200 1990

ignition coil, wires, distributor....all those three sound like it could be related to ignition stuff. When my 240 started stalling at idle and had loss of power, I traced it to the ignition coil. Where the wire going to the distributor came out, the contact had rotted away. It wasn't easily noticeable. Pull out the cables and inspect them.

good luck
