RE: main bearing replacement? 200 1984

Hello!
Any good sites for help with main bearing replacements?
I think I may need to replace.
Is this a very difficult job?
I do work on my own bricks.
Thanks

RE: main bearing replacement? 200 1984

This is not an 'in the car' thing. If you have the engine out, it is quite easy. You do need a good manual, preferably Volvo green, plastigauge, etc to do it correctly, and if the crank is scored it really should be reground.

If you enjoy this as I do, it is fun, but not cheap to do a good job.

Good luck,

dick

RE: main bearing replacement? 200 1984

I put a crank kit in my 78 several years ago.

I agree that you should just find a good used engine. Pulling and installing an engine is childs play, compared to replacing the main bearings. It can be done, but the question is: Why would you want to? Considering the alternative.

Good luck

Lawrence

You mean you want to replace the crankshaft main bearings?
You should have at least a Haynes manual if not a Bentley, and follow those procedures. At the end of the day, you'll wish you simply dropped another engine in there. Around here, a good running engine is $100-$500 depending on the day of the week....
They're rebuildable, but they last so long is just usually not needed.
