Installing all 6 speakers to 4 channel aftermarket receiver 900 1995

Hi, I've purchased an aftermarket radio after my factory installed radio died. But I can only get the front door and rear deck speakers to work with the radio. It just doesn't sound the same, however, I think because the dash speakers aren't connected. I've isolated the wires to the dash speakers, but I'm not sure if I can connect them, without damaging my receiver, in parallel or series. I don't want to dish out more money for an ext amp. ideas?

Also, I've purchased some replacement speakers for the front door, any easy way to remove those rivets? I searched the forum and people have had success drilling (?) them. Any easier way?

Thanks!

-Wender

only connect via pasive crossovers ... other connections put your head unit and speakers at risk (will certainly have the potential to seriously shorten the power amp stages life inthe head unit)

If using passive crossovers, then consider matched components.

Before doing this upgrade power and speaker cable..the volvo stuff is junk that will hamper the sonic performance of any head unit.

And i am not talking about mega multi amp stuff here...just your basic head unit.

essentially sort out the basics prior to geting onto the fancy stuff, oh and CHECK that the impedance of an y speakers you connect match your head unit...some 940's at any rate arnt fitted with standard impedance speakers and featured band pass filters in the stock stereo's to compansate for speaker characteristics.

If you want further info email me off list and i will explain..typed it in too many times in here, i will do a doc and email it back...

I had the same problem when I installed a Blaupunkt in my 94 wagon with 6 speaker system. Called Crutchfield to ask them what to do and they said just splice the dash speakers into the front door speakers. Did that and have had no problems.

Or Crutchfield has an wiring harness adapter kit that plugs right into your existing wiring harness. I did this when I intalled a new Kenwood and all 6 sound great!!!

On the rivets, just drill them. The hole is appox 1/8", so use about a 3/16" drill and go slowly. The rivets are alum, so all you have to do is drill the "head" off the rivet body. Very easy to do. Use a sharp drill bit, as the rivet may spin in the hole.

Thanks for giving me the details, I think I'll go ahead and drill them myself!

Any thoughts about getting the dash speakers to work? Parallel vs series, leave them off?

I ran across the same problem. I just removed the tinny lousy little dash speakers. They are crossed over as tweeters anyway. I replaced the front door speakers on my 93 940 with Cerwin Vega 5.25" and the rears with Blaupunkt 5.25.
I shot a 1.25" drywall screw with a rubber washer to hold the factory grills in place for good. Also, don't remove the front door speakers. Cut the metal cone baskets with a dremel and then mount your new 5.25"s into the old speakers frame. Fits perfectly.
