Hello
I have no fourh gear, Automatic 1987 240. Has anybody heard of taking a dremel and putting a channel between the two ports on the OD solenoid.The relay,wiring harness and OD solenoid,and fuse have been replaced.

    Bought an 89 with a horrible slipping 4th...couldn't go over 30mph...forget hills or even small inclines. Drained trans fluid (black as coal and smelled like burnt tar), replaced trans filter, adjusted kickdown cable, added new fluid and off we went. Trans is perfect in all gears. However, just today I seemed to have missplaced reverse. Another adjustment...if I let her slowly adjust to reverse she will catch and is just fine.

    If everything down to and including the OD solenoid is working, then putting a channel in the solenoid won't make any difference.

    It may be AAARGHH! the internals of the transmission.
