Drumbrake shoe guide pin differences 120-130 1963

Hi,

The original guide pins of my amazon drumbrakes are of the "both ends flat head" type (see Haynes page 144) in combination with the lock spring.
I ordered new guide pins (correct type number) and I received the other guidepin type with 1 flat head and the other side a vertical pressed end as it is shown on page 146 (Haynes) in combination with the lock spring of the other type.

Will this work or was a mistake made ? I expect that the last combination will cause the pin to turn 90 degrees and pop out of the lock spring. Anyone experience with this ?

    I don't have the Haynes manual for the 122, but in the Volvo P120 - P1800
    manual, part 5, page 5-11, Fig. 25 it shows the rear wheel brake unit
    with item 3, a guide pin and item 2, a locking washer. The pin is inserted
    through the brake plate and through the brake shoe. You put the spring and
    the locking washer on it and turn the locking washer 90° to lock it.
    Unless either or both the guide pin and the locking washer are badly worn or
    corroded, I've not had any problem with them staying where they belong.
    Many auto parts stores have generic kits of these pins and washers, some
    wit8 springs also. Usually the springs or pins are of the wrong length but
    the washers work OK.

      George;

      That has been my experience with the pins also...with the springs holding pressure out on the keyed washer, they stay in place just fine...the pin lengths of generic (ie Bendix) replacement kits available vary quite a bit, but they did have a kit with lengths similar to the originals.

      Arno;

      Unless the washers are rusted and/or the keying doesn't hold securely anymore, the system may seem a bit flimsy, but the only time I've seem it fail was when the pin pulled through a rusted washer under spring tension.

      Sorry, but I don't know what the minimum ID is for drum (I'll check my references)...IMO, don't machine them without a damn good reason!

      Cheers
