Torque wrench - what range do I need? 200

I want to get a torque wrench, and hope to get away with investing in just ONE. What range should I look for? I intend to put it to "general weekend mechanic use", no engine rebuilds.

Thanks,

Erling, Norway.

I agree with Ringlee--you can get ONE good wrench from 15 or 25lbs to around 200.

For the lower torque applications, if you are so inclined to follow them exactly, get a beam type torque wrench in either inch pounds or low range foot pounds. Or both. The cost is minimal for these and they are typically very accurate.

The most useful range and size for a torque wrench would be one measuring between 15 and 100 Nm, using a socket size of about 10mm. That's a 3/8 inch socket in the US. This will cover almost all auto applications.

Get the "clicking" type, which is easier to use than a beam wrench. It does require occasional calibration, however.
