Is my Electric A/C Fan supposed to come on when I turn on the A/C or is it on a Temp Sensor?

I just bought a new A/C fan for my 91 744T. I also bought a new rad, and it is the same as the old with two male electric fittings in the top passenger side corner of the rad. Is this fan supposed to be on a temp sensor, or is it supposed to automatically engage with the A/C? FAQ says automatically engage, but that seems iffy to me since the wiring doesn't really tap into any of the A/C wiring...

According to the wiring manual, the relay can ground either by the temp sensor in the radiator, or the pressure switch on the system high side.

(Or in ECC vehicles, by the control unit, apparently.)

yes that fitting on the top right side of rad is a temp sensor.
The fan cycles on and off with the A/C on when coolant temp reaches a certain temp.

It may cycle on and off with the AC when coolant temp reaches a certain level, but does not necessarily other wise cycle on and off with the AC. Test by turning on the AC and watch the fan and you will see. The fan does come on with temperature, but I think it would run with temperature regardless of AC. Test by leaving the AC off and blocking the radiator or primary fan so the car begins to get hotter than it normally would and watch the secondary fan.

The real question is does the electric fan help the AC. The answer is that it may under some conditions, but it could be a lot better if there was a direct link regqrdless of coolant temp.

That's what I was thinking. With the new primary fan I have, the A/C fan doesn't come on much...would wiring it to come on with the A/C be a good idea, or am I just worrying? The A/C blows cold and the car doesn't bog down from heat, but if it is going to make the A/C more efficient, I'm all for it.
