This puppy is overheating 200

I have replaced the water pump. The old one was shot to the point of no return. After replaceing the water pump the car would run warm going down the freeway and then suddenly the temp would drop and stay in the range where it normally runs. I replaced the t stat thinking it was operating sometimes sometimes not. There was no change. I did notice that there were aluminum fillings around the t stat it put you in mind of stop leak, judging from the looks of the old water pump I beleive theat is where the fillings came from. I am left with the radiator or the thermostatic clutch fan. The clutch fan seams to be working. Should I flush the radiator, buy a new one or is there another avenue to explore?
Thanks in advance for everyones help

Pull out the radiator and clean the fins with a high pressure hose. I know you dont think it will work (neither did I) but it did. Very cheap fix!

Do ONE more thing before you dump the radiator and the rest of the system: Give the dashboard a sharp whack (don't sledgehammer it) right next to the temp gauge next time it does that.

The temperature gauge's circuit board (called the compensating board) in the cluster, is prone to failure. I have replaced COUNTLESS circuit boards.

If the temp gauge rapidly reacts to the jar from your hand, suspect an errant gauge.

For Chris--completely off the topic 200

      Chris-

I have greatly admired your everchanging pictures that you include in your posts. Sailing, boating, and other fun stuff. Can I be you?

        No Way! 200

Not a chance... I'll give up money before fun!

Really, I'm all about having fun. In fact, my fun ratio has been higher than ever lately.

In fact, today's sailing/boating/swimming binge has me SO tired I'm almost comatose. I'm working on a plan where I never have to go back to work. At least the office kind.
