cr-718 radio in '91 740 wagon 700 1991

Anyone have any removal tips for the cr-718 radio? There appears to be 2 slots on each side of the radio that some tool fit into. This is NOT like the radio that used to be in my girlfriend's '89 740, where I removed both knobs and pulled in the tabs.

Also, anyone know if this radio uses the cheap-ass amp like the '89 did?

Finally, how hard is it to add speakers to the front doors? I'm unimpressed with the front dash-mounted speakers.

Yes, the amp is weak.

If you pop the door panel off, usually there are speaker wires waiting for use. That makes putting them in a matter of mounting the speakers.

This applies to 91 and up 740/940. Most 940s seem to have the front door speakers already.

To pull the radio, take two long, narrow screwdrivers and put them in the slots. YOu'll feel the tabs on the radio. After that, the unit should pull out. I don't remember if you have to take out the junk box beneath it or not. I've pulled a million of them, but another mil of other manufacturers' radios as well. It all gets mixed up after a while.
