Stereo code?!?!? 900 1993

Help! I just bought a '93 960 and tonight the battery died, when the battery dies apparently the stereo locks up and i need a code in order to get it working again. Now there is suppose to be a card with the code on it but of course it's not there, and the guy I bought it from doesn't seem to know what it is or how to find it. Does anyboy have any idea how I would go about getting this code, or at least lead me in the right direction? It would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I too did not have the stereo code when I bought my '91 940 SE.

I called my local dealer, they had me show my ownership and licence, then based on the VIN, they gave me the code. In addition, based on the VIN, they cut some more rather expensive ignition keys for me.

FWIW, same thing happened to me. I was fortunate enough to see where the previous owner had written the code on a page of the owner's manual. You might check other documentation related to the car for the code besides the card. And yes, the dealer can help you.

I believe you will need to remove the radio and right down the serial number. Your volvo dealer should be able to get you the code that way. Or you may be able to contact the dealer where the car was serviced or purchased. Sometimes the service writer will have inputed it into the owners database. Good luck.

Yes; you have to contact a Volvo dealer with the VIN. Depending on the dealer, you might have to take the car over to them for them to get the code.
