rebuilt turbo failure?

I recently rebuilt the turbo in my '91 740. Not trusting mechanics a lot nowadays, I checked the hose from the turbo to the intercooler and found a little bit of oil. I had previously cleaned these hoses out. Is this oil in the hoses normal for a rebuilt turbo? What went wrong?

A little oil isn't a big deal. When you rebuilt the Turbo, did you have the internals electronically balanced? If not, I'd do so.

Based on my experience, a little oil is completely normal. It's probably nothing to worry about. There's actually an oil drain plug in the bottom of the intercooler for exactly this reason.

    Hope this helps.
