ENGINE WILL NOT STAY RUNNING 200 1980

I have an automatic 1980 240 dl. It wouldnt start 2days ago, but with a little work to it (cleaning the rotor cap, connections, and regapping the spark plugs and a few more things) it will now start, but then die as soon as it does. Is there anyone who has had similar problems? I have gotten a reccomendation to change the fuel pump relay, and will do that tomorrow. thanks for any help. Mike

You don't have a Air Mass Meter. Your CI fuel injection system relies on fuel pressure to open the fuel injectors at each cylinder. The cold start injector on top of the intake manifold is an electric solenoid that will open with zero fuel pressure. All this means that your engine will start (via the cold start) with less than enough gas pressure to open the fuel injectors. Hence it will crank, but not run. I'd check the fuel pressure first. Your problem could be as simple as a clogged fuel filter.

Check the hose from the intake to the Air Mass Meter (AMM). I had the one on my 86 come loose and it did the same thing. Also look for other large Vaccum leaks.
