In this past week there was a 94 degree day out of the blue and I succesfully allowed my car to blow it's head gasket. I now need to replace the engine. Something I do not have the time, tools, or expertise to do. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could fetch myself a used/rebuilt B230F for my 240DL? In addition, with all the fun talk of v8 conversions, I was wondering if it would be worth it to do that since I need to replace the engine anyway? And if so, what is the engine make/model I need to find? And is there someone in the New England area who will do the swap, or even put in the rebuilt B230F for a reasonable price?

You may only need a head gasket and valve job. If a used engine is needed, try Brian Leppin im Maryland, Brian@volvousedparts.com, phone 1-301-367-2244. A V8 conversion will be much more expensive than reparing or replacing the Volvo engine.

You could get a used engine from B&D in Shirley, MA. Recently, they stopped allowing people to enter their yard to roam around, but they would still be a good source for an engine.

You know, since you are paying for the parts and labor either way, it would probably be cheaper to have someone replace the head gasket, and resurface the head if needed. Why do an entire swap?

As for a V8 swap, Ross Converse is THE "someone in the New England area who will do the swap..." But now you are talking even more money than the used B230F installation. It will change the character of your car.
