will a 740 remote filter unit fit on a 240 turbo? 200

I need new oil cooler lines, and I found some 740 lines that look almost brand new. Problem is they are made for the remote oil filter setup so I need to put that on my B21. Looks like it will fit to me, but is there something I have not thought of. I am sure someone has already tried this.

The 740 oil-filter rig will most likely put the oil filter right in the path of your turbo oil-drain pipe.

Either get a Mitsu-turbo drain pipe and replace the top flange with one for a garrett turbo, or invent your own flexible-line oil drain.

It's do-able, but since I assume you're already chasing oil leaks, this is going to create the chance for more...

When you say most likely, do you mean for sure or probably? It know it looks really close. Have you tried it?

On a 740T that was originally a Mitsu turbo, we converted to a Garrett turbo, and attempted to use the drainpipe from the garrett, but it interfered with the oil filter. (went right thru it really.)

We then headed back to the junkyard and did some hunting around and found that the long oil-filter "arm" seemed to coincide with the Mitsu turbo and with the hydraulic engine mounts.

In order to switch to the Garrett adapter (which is the little 1" adapter between the block and the filter, similar to the 240 I believe) we would have had to install the different oil cooler lines and different engine mounts and brackets, as the hydraulic mount brackets would have interfered with the filter in the Garrett location. This doesn't apply to you, but it's the reason we didn't do that route, and instead chose to gut the Garrett flange off the garrett drainpipe and weld it onto a Mitsu drainpipe. Alingment is more than critical to allow for a good seal afterwards, and I fear we gooned it, as the car always leaked there from then on...

Thanks for the detailed information. I've got to go back to the junkyard anyway so I'll have to try to piece together some half decent 240 oil lines. I can at least use the hoses off the 700 series lines. I still may be stubborn enough to try to put that unit on my car. I don't see why you could not angle it down a little bit more so that it misses the drain pipe. If it ever stops raining here I am going to give it a try. It would sure make the oil filter a lot easier to get at.
