OK, I'm lazy. What is the rear axle ratio on 1990 740T w/automatic?

North American spec, supposedly heavy duty suspension with 16" wheels from the factory.

I'm this close to buying the MVP Truetrac unit and having it installed or trying it myself, but the carrier is for 3.73 and higher axle ratios.

Your car has 3.73 ratio differential gears. The TrueTrac unit works well. To the best of my knowledge you need part number 912A411 for a Dana 30. You will also need to get a new pulse wheel (MVP should be able to provide that) which was Volvo's optional pulse wheel for the Dana PowerLock sold under the Volvo name. The TrueTrac will need to be machined to accept the new pulse wheel which will be tack welded to the TrueTrac carrier.

Where are you? You might want to contact me directly as I have recently been through this.
