If your dad is anything like mine:

1) Detail the crap out of his car. Engine bay, etc. New fluids, etc if necessary.

2) Tell him you were gonna get him a $100 gift but you put it in savings.

3) He'll feel much better that he raised a hard working, bright son than he will opening a gift in a box.

How about some auxiliary gauges? Maybe the tach/small clock switch? A tachometer is the gift that keeps on giving.

Best of luck.

Might go to www.ipdusa.com
They seem to have more and more stuff of this nature and less and less
for the serious oldtimer.

Some ideas:
-a cupholder armrest (used-check www.volvoworld.com
-plastic floor trays for the front to keep snow from ruining the carpets
-a car detailing/cleaning/waxing
