Transmission will not shift into 3rd gear HELP! 700

I have 740 1987 220K MI on it. Last night while I was driving home transmission could not shift into 3rd gear while it was in D mode. Fluid level is OK, I tested all shifts and it looks like something has moved. D shift behaves like shift 2 and in shift 2 I can engage in first gear only. In shift 1 I can not engage in first gear at all. There is no any unusual noises or slipping in or out between gears. It it something that I can adjust it and put it back in normal? Thanks for any suggestions.

    From what you describe, it sounds like the shift linkage got seriously shifted itself. With that, you should be able to go forward in neutral, and reverse in park.

    How are the engine and tranny mounts? I won't be suprised if they're in two or more pieces.

      No, park and neutral are OK. I have not checked mounts, I don't have any experience with transmission but draining the fluid. They are probably original ones that came with the car.
