Car = 1990 745ti
Problem = After replacing transmission, car lacks power at low end of rpm range, hesitates to spin up, difficult to drive like this, and it ran perfectly before.
Well I shut off the engine and reinstalled the transmission. Still doesn't work right. Took car to mechanic, but unfortunately mentioned the taking off the flywheel for machining, now he wonders about the positioning of wheel on crank. It is exactly where it was when I began the job. There are punch marks from the last clutch/trans job (another story), and my paint mark, both of which verify my view that the flywheel is on right. Of course, as a DIYer, my credibility is not very good with a pro.
I want to be 100% certain about that damn RPM sensor! I have gotten conflicting and ambiguous info to this point. (No offense, guys, but the pictures and descriptions just don't quite convince me, they don't quite look like my car, and the "long tooth" thing in the shop manual makes no sense, there are no long teeth).
The mechanic is trying to check this out, too, but I do not want to pay him to r&r that transmission for the third time! (I already did it twice, once just to check that flywheel mark!)
--->> SO, how can one verify the flywheel's alignment on the crank without taking the tranny out? <<---- I wnat the mech to look for other causes, but need to be POSITIVE about the flywheel!
