1987 Turbo fire...Suggestions? 700

Suffered minor underhood wiring damage and the paint burned off the hood. I need input as to ID of existing turbo. Haven't eyeballed the unit closeup yet, but I suspect an oil fire as it was hard to put out even with the engine off. Any suggestions appreciated.

almost surely Garrett unless modified by someone. 700

One way to confirm is to check for compressor bypass valve...the garrett installation used a separate bypass valve mounted up near the radiator/airbox that bypassed the compressor and routed air back into the compressor inlet.
The mitsubishi has an integrated blowoff valve that vents to atmosphere.

    1987 Turbo fire...Suggestions? 700

More likely an electrical fire due to the infamous biodegradable engine wiring harness. Take the old one off and rewire it. Use high quality wires and reuse the old connectors, or go to the dealer and get one for around 300 bux. Also, carparts.com, fcpgroten.com and a few others.

Look on the fron of the compressor, it will say Garette or Mitsubishi
