first time i n the snow 120-130

I drove my 122s for the first time in the snow today. We've had a mild winter in Illinois...the lighter side of global warming I guess.

Anyway snowed a few inches and the 122 did GREAT! Not much fishtailing. Not much slippage. I was impressed. These cars are amazing!

    Skinny tires and great weight distribution!

    Only thing you have to worry about now is the copious amount of salt they use on the roads around here. It eats old cars.

    Phred;

    No surprise there!...You don't think a country which is 2/3s above the arctic circle would make a car that wasn't any good in winter (FWD Slaabs not withstaning)...

    What kind of tires do you have on it?...For the Snow Weasel, I prefer (Dutch) Vredestein Snow+ M+Ss or (Swedish) Gislaved Frost M+Ss in 165SR-15 size, naturally all the way around, but it's been a while since I bought any (I understand the Vredesteins are no longer being imported...don't know about the Gislaveds)...and I keep a set of chains in the trunk (aint been stuck yet)...not even the New England blizzard of 1978 kept us parked...hell, we towed people on x-counrty skis from the rear door handles...Big fun!

    Cheers

      Yeah Vredistiens are no longer imported to the US atleast not into the east coast. I'm a good friend with the man who used to import them. I bought the last pair of them from him for my 740. THat was about 6 years ago.

      Ron: I hate to call to your attention that them boxheads* from up north also turned out the 200 series and particularly the 700s. Now there is some fun in the snow!

      *Since I am one of 'em, I feel free to refer to Scandahoovians as "boxheads"

        Leeb;

        ...and what's wrong with a little "fun in the snow"?

        Those newer models all had 70 or even 60/65 aspect ratio performance tires (snow shoes by comparison to the 78 series potato chip tires found on the oldies), so I do agree that from the factory, these models, compromised toward the performance side (including probably the FWDs), were not particlularilly known for their winter condition prowess (is that a surprise, with those tires?)...BUT...equip those vehicles with one series narrower winter rubber, like those fantastic Haakkapelittas M+Ss, all the way around, and (for instance) our 745T was damn near unstoppable in the winter.

        I also remember an interesting run years ago, in convoy, with D+G Adams, they in their 240 (unknown tires), and me, in the beveredesteined Snow Weasel, for about 15 miles on an unplowed highway with snow up to just under the gunwales...we motored by everything in sight, including FWDs! ...maybe some credit goes to youthful exuberance (or recklessness), but the equipment sure performed admirably when called upon (and maybe thanks to it, we all survived!).

        Ques que se, Boxhead?
