odometer not working. 200

The odometer in my 88 240 quite working due to a small planetary gear loosing one tooth. Is there any source for the individual parts on electrically driven odometers? The fix seems simple enough, if hte parts are availible.
Jim

Yeah the odometer in my car crapped out too. I talked to the folks at Absolute Automotive (in Durham, NC) and it sounded like there's a place in Greensboro that can get the parts. Anyway, that's the best i can do. Personally, though, i'm not fixing the goddamn thing.

Hey thanks for asking the question! I'm gonna find that pesky gear myself. My 245 (1989) is also about 10 MPH fast. Hear d anything about a fix for this? Peace.

My odometer registers about 10 MPH fast also. I'm not certain what to do about it though.

The gear can be repaired, but it's fiddly. It requires the fabrication of so me collars to fit on the shoulders of the gear and hold it tight to the shaft. Let me know if you decide to try this as I have instructions somewhere on how to do this little job. email me direct on richard.jewell@mapeley.com if required.

I just got two entire instrument panels at a local pic n pull for $30.00 each, swapped the gear, and now I also have a back-up clock for when it quits, and a tach. You do take your chances on getting a bad one, but I was able to do a little detective work, to better my chances. I found emissions test sheets in each car that let me kwow they were working in the near past. Also if the trip odometer is not at zero, I think thats a good indicator it's good, think about it, whats the first thing you did when yours quit? Good luck.

Well I had the exact same gear fail on my daughter's 87 240 but fortunately I had a spare instrument cluster sitting around that I got from a pick/pull yard to obtain another part. I found that the gear was stuck on it's shaft which I think caused it to break. I put the replacement on with a bit of silicone lube.
Sorry other than the yards I do not know a source. Maybe a speedo shop?
