Wire Coming From Floor To Drivers Seat. 200 1984

I was wondering if anyone knew what the wire coming from the floor near the heater vent, clipping into a wire coming from the seat was used for. Anything would help.

Like the others have said, these are the wires for the seat heaters. All the 240 turbos had a heated driver's seat as standard. There was no on/off switch, the seat heater always had power to it, and was controlled by a thermostat in the heater. Most of the time, the wire breaks off where it connects to the thermostat.

It is pretty easy to fix, but you have to take the upholstery off the seat bottom to do it. If you have to fix a sagging seat, then you have a good opportunity to fix the heater at the same time. If you know how to solder, you can solder a piece of stranded wire to the thermostat and attach the other end of the wire to the seat heater wire. This will make a tougher connection to the thermostat that will not be as likely to break.

When I got my 240T, the previous owner wasn't aware that the driver's seat was heated either, because it wasn't working. It is nice to have in the winter!

        Amanda -

The Turbo models had the same trim level as the GL, which includes seat heaters. Some models have the switches in the center console, one either side of the Emerg. brake handle. If there are no switches there, there might be knock out panels instead, and your heaters were thermostatically controlled (these always break).

Can you see a pair of wires hanging down under the seat bottom? It's easier to see if you raise the back setting to the highest of the 3 spaces and then crouch down in the back seat foot well and look in. If you also see other things hanging down from the seat bottom, like springs and grid wires, them the seat is due for a re-hab. Post with your findings, OK?

        Good Luck,

        Bob
