After driving Ford Aerostar vans for two decades (I know), my '96 960 was a joy to work on. I changed a starter on an old Accord V6 last year, that was awful, as I recall.

When considering disposable vehicles, Honda is the best at what they do, which is to build excellent cars with near impeccable reliability. They are, however, still disposable vehicles when compared to the unbelievable durability of Volvo.

While Volvos will require some maintenance that Hondas may not, in my experience you'll still save money because of the huge percentage of that maintenance you'll be able to do yourself, and possibly even enjoy.

As with any purchase, have it checked by a qualified mechanic to rule out any surprises, but I've never regretted my conversion to Volvo.

You've got to be kidding!
Honda hasn't made anything simple to work on since the 600.
Take a look under the hood of a 940, you could hold a barn dance in there compared to trying to wedge your body parts under the hood of a Honda.
As far a troubleshooting, almost nobody really understands honda electronics. little simple glitches like door locks getting buggy normally lead to cascading electronic failures.
The Volvos are much easier to figure out and fix, and they are designed to be fixed, not thrown away

Steve R. hit the nail on the head. The simplicity of the b230f and the surrounding car make DIY maintenance and repair very straight forward. This fact in conjuction with the vast wealth of knowledge available through the Brickboard make owning any 740\940 a walk (for the most part)in the park for a DIY'er. Do not forget the abundance of inexpensive aftermarket parts. I am just as comfortable and confident working on my 92 745t daily driver as I am my weekend, trash hauling 76 Ford F250 Supercab beater truck which is obscenely rudimentary.

So to answer your original question: No, A 940 Volvo will we easier to trouble shoot than a relatively simple Honda.

Incorrect! I've owned both and there is no comparison betweeen the 2. If for no other reason, look at the engine bay and the accessability of everything. CC

Any 740/940 with B230F is agricultural in simplicity and ruggedness. One of the last cars for the true DIY-er.

no, probably incorrect. the 940 will likely need less maintenance and being RWD its much simpler and easier to work on. even a 940 Turbo ! go find one and drive
it.
