My third brake light is acting up.

Yesterday on my way home from work, I noticed the bulb-out light on the dash cluster.

Anytime I am in [P]ark, the light turns off (it turns on if I hit the brake pedal)

Anytime I put the car in gear, the bulb-failure light remains on fulltime.

Anyway, the light that is out is the third brake light.

Today at noon, I removed teh cover to get at the bulb, only to find out that it is not burned out.

So i'm looking for a bit of troubleshooting help.

Oops... I edited this post to cover up my idiocy (244 not 245 like I posted).

I'd verify ground and power to the 3rd light. And check the fusebox for a bad connection on one of the fuses.

The car is a sedan. The wires look fine as well.

I think I'll have to trace it (ugh)

Check the ground.
On my wagon if the latch doesnt click in properly , it gets a bad ground and does that.

Nope :)

the 1991 is my sedan.

The 1986 still is dead. I put in your Air Mass Meter, and the symptoms are the same. I think it can only be the wiring harness now.

(I replaced the rotting one with a volvo replacement I bought on ebay)
