seatbelt latch 700 1986

Hi, The driver's side seatbelt can be inserted into the latch, but the latch doesn't click and hold the seatbelt in place, as if the locking mechanism isn't catching. If I ram it in a few times it eventually clicks and holds. Any thoughts on the cause and a fix?

Thanx. Jeff

HI; I had the same problem on a few cars I have had in the past. Every time it turned out to be either a penny or a dime. I use gum and a coffee sterer. Forgive my spelling. Dan.. PS .You could try a shop vac with a crack sucker atachment. Good luck..

I had the same issue with a BMW 325 i had (same seatbelt system). It turned out that a small plactic catch in the latch had broken. Which is expected after 10- 15 years a use. I found the best and easiest fix is to find a used one at a slavge yard. It's a 5$ part and a 30 min fix. really easy. If you plan to keep the car for a long peroid of time you might want to inves in a new one all together.

    Thanks Justus
