valve tap!!! (educated opinions please) 700 1990

Hmmm well it's been a while since I've had to post a message on this board. Thats good i guess...seein that i own two black sheep of the volvo family (16valve, V6) Gotta question for ya!! On my 760 I have noticed that the valves have started tappin on it. Its currently about 6000 miles past it's adjustment time...and I was wondering when i take this car in will it ever be as "quiet" as it was...and why do they need adjustments . It have 158,000 miles on it and it had 139,000 when i bought it!! Also i seem to keep breaking that driver's side motor mount this is the second one in 5 months...any advice!!! Thanks!!

Re: valve tap!!! (educated opinions please) 700 1990

Hello Jason:

What shape are your exhaust manifold gaskets in? Do your manifolds still have their full complement of studs? The reason I am asking is because some of the studs have fallen out of my v-6 (B280F like yours) and at first I thought I had some valve noise, which is actually a small exhaust leak. It is probably worth a look...

The reason that the valves need adjustment is because they are not hydraulic, rather they are solid like in the old aircooled VWs.

I have not had any trouble with motor mounts on my '89 yet, touch wood...

How often do you have your valves adjusted, and how much does it cost?
