TSB on cold start problems, automatics 200 240

In trying to diagnose a cold start stalling problem on our 87 244 (starts right up when temp around 20C, then stalls when a load is put on, i.e., putting into gear), I came across a TSB at Alldata.com that describes this situation. The solution is to install a kit (P/N 3531 106-7) that increases the voltage of the engine coolant temp sensor (ECT) and makes the LH control unit to think that temperature is actually 10C colder than it is, increasing the "choke factor". Worth trying? So far, I have checked several things without success---AMM, fuel pump check valve, air control valve, charging system, vacuum leaks, clean throttle body--- and wasn't sure where to head next until I saw the TSB. I fixed a similar problem before on a 88 244 by replacing the AMM with a good used one, after checking the other things on the list, but that didn't help this time. If anyone in the forum can relate any experiences with the fix in the TSB, would be greatly appreciated.

Re: TSB on cold start problems, automatics 200 86

The -544 ECU was supercecded by the -554 to correct this problem:lean fuel/air ratio. A repair kit (P/N 3531106-7) is available from Volvo for about $200. I experimented with a 10K pot. connected in series with the ECT adjusted to 2K ohms and this fixed it. Increase the CTS resistance and the ECU increases the injector pulse width.

Re: TSB on cold start problems, automatics 200 240

Original message is now moot. The ECU on my car is Bosch P/N 0 280 000 544, so this fix is not relevant. But, maybe the information will still be helpful to others. There is also a message buried in the archives about this.
