Engine misses 200 1985

My 240 had a tuneup 10,000 miles ago by dealership. Car has 130,000 miles on it. For the first time ever, the engine occasionally misses while under acceleration. I have original wires in the car and it has always been regularly serviced. The last tune up was one year/10k miles ago. Any advice on what the most probable cause is? Also, I don't believe that that distributor or rotor have ever been replaced. I hate to go to the dealershuip and let them have an open order.

Thanks,

Stu

What kind of tune up did they do and not give you a new distributor cap and rotor? Weird. Replace them.

If your wires are original from 85, just replace them. Believe me they are toast and probably are arcing through the insulation. On a dark night in a dark spot open your hood with the engine running. Any sparks?

(I assumed you meant distributor CAP, not the whole distributor)

sounds like plugs and/or leads might be up for replacement or - at least they're cheap and easy to do yourself and thus rule them out. But check first for loose connections in the plugleads, and tracking (carbon-looking trails) inside the dist cap. Pity it's intermittent otherwise you could simply begin swapping ignition parts between cylinders to find the missing one(s).
