Oil Pan temperature... 700 1990

I was wondering how hot the oil pan usually gets,

because for those of you with a B230FT I noticed the oil line that goes from the Turbo into the pan started to have a small leak...I used clear silicone that says it's undestructive for up to 400 degrees or so...so I was just wondering if that'd be alright (already used it by the way) also-I'm curious...I let it sit for the night-but it says it dries in 30 minutes but cures in 24 hours?! What's up with that? I had to use it in the morning and been babying it all day-and so far it's holding great-anywayz...I'd like your opinions-

Thanks,

Frank

Frank,

If you have the opportunity (?) to do it again you might try using lacquer thinner to wipe down the area as much as possible to give the silicone a dry, oil free surface to grip. Use caution when using lacquer thinner as it is very flamable.

Re: Oil Pan temperature... 700 1990

If your oil ever ran within 100 degrees of that limit it would turn to gak. Somewhere in the 180-210 range is probably average.

That turbo oil return pipe leak is very common. The o-ring goes bad. RTV works only if the surface is clean enough to bond to, but many have fixed the same leak with that stuff.
