Antifreeze differences Red and Green 200 90

I lost the GREEN antifreeze from my 1990 240 and wanted to know if RED antifreeze will work the same. Because other than the color I don't believe there are really any differences. Does anyone know if there are any differences worth noting????

Re: Antifreeze differences Red and Green 200 90

Ok by red stuf i assume you are refering to the extended life antifreeze also commonly referred to as "DEXCOOL". There are some differences in the anti-corrosion additives used in the long life antifreeze. If you switch to the extended life antifreeze be sure to completely flush the system first, a mix of green and red together does not protect as well as either one alone (protection from corrosion that is, both are ethelyne glycol based and have the same protection against freezing and boiling). In my opinion I'd just stay with the green and change it every two years.

MittenHed does say... 200 90

Most of the red stuff I have seen is anti-freeze. Not anti-boil. It would be the stuff to use to winterize the washing machine in your Winnebago. It is usually non-toxic for use in water systems, but does not provide the high temperature anti-boil protection of regular anti-freeze.

My brick doesn't have a radiator cap, but the expansion tank is on the right. I use the green stuff.:)

The main thing about the anti freeze is if its a phosphate free type.

If you don't know what type is in there you probably should change it

to the phosphate free. The phosphates can cause problems with some

aluminum parts.

the green goes on the left and the red goes on the right.

I would advise not mixing the two types. A good flush is in order.
