Cheap water pump 200 89

Autozone had one for $34 new. Figured it would be a POS, but went to take a look since everyone else but Volvo needed to order it.

Sur-prise, sur-prise, it has a cast impeller, and looks pretty good. Made in the USA by ASC industries. Comes with a top-hat washer for the top, and a square-section o-ring for the side. Bentley says petroleum jelly, but I'm going to use a bit of silicone as recommended here.

Bought a new thermostat as well, then read Bentley's warning about using only a genuine Volvo part because of the jiggle valve. Hmmm. I'll probably put this one in; it makes a jiggling sound when I turn it around in my hand. But I would be interested in knowing what it is. My first assumption is that it releases the difference between the two sides when there's no pressure in the pipe, so that the coolant can be drained without being stranded.

The valve is the little hole in the perimeter of the thermostat with the little stem in it. Goes at the uppermost point of the circle of the openning.
