it was the relay! i think! 200 79

thanks for the advice about the relay!it wasn't blown, but it must have been loose, i pulledthe plug out and put it back in and she fired right up! thanks, it was a silver box with bosch on it mounted on the fender well on the left side of the engine compartment! thanks again! don

Be careful, the connections inside this relay crack at the connector. don't be surprised if this happens again. I hope it was a bad external connection but I fear you may have just remade the internal connection temporarily.

I have an'89 and my relay is inside the car. I hope we are talking aboutthe same thing. Honestly it sounds like you 'played' with the headlight brights relay. But again I'm not familiar with'79.

I dunno about helping out, but the K-jet system also have a smaller metal-cased relay mounted next to the hi-lo relay. This other (3-legged) relay is for the frequency valve. Sometimes the connections get cruddy and the engine runs just as cruddy (extra lean, I think).

Unplugging-replugging that PIA relay always helped my various rustbuckets. I finally cleaned all the connections and greased 'em up.
