Late night VIN question 700 89

Test of you 700 knowledge...

While looking for a car in the 'net, I came across one that interests me. I believe that the 6th and 7th digits of the VIN denote the engine. "87" would be the b230ft, and "88" would be the NA b230, correct?

And can anyone tell me the check digits for the transmission type, e.g. what place in the VIN, and the corresponding transmission?

Thanks

Bring it on!

Not in the VIN. VIN tells you make, model, safety equipment, engine, # doors, year, factory, and chassis number (in that order, more or less). The production tables at volvoworld.com list the engine and transmissions for a given model/year.

Your first observation (that 87 denotes B230FT, and 88 as B230F)is correct. I don't think the transmission type is in the VIN, it's indicated on the left hand side of the transmission instead.

Jarrod has this stuff on the site, see link. Also, the transmission isn't in the VIN, I don't think, it's on the "Product Plate".

Thanks Phil!

As a 240 owner, I didn't think to look in the 700/900 fAQ's
